This month was...a doozy to say the least. We had some highs spending time with family and friends over the holidays, playing in the snow, and visiting Zion and St. George, but we hit a record-low during the first week of January when SJ came down with RSV. :( We were so lucky that she evaded getting sick last winter when she was just tiny, but the Layton genes couldn't be suppressed for long (all five of us Layton kids had it and none of Hayden's family ever did!). Luckily we had her 12-month wellness check during the same week she was sick so we could get her looked at and properly diagnosed. After finding out it was RSV, it was just a terrible waiting game while we tried to remedy her symptoms. Poor girl was so congested, had the nastiest cough, and kept getting a fever every time the Tylenol wore off. We cranked her humidifier and snuggled her all week while she drooled all over us. I felt so helpless and sad, like I wished I could've been sick instead! Finally, after a full seven days of being sick, she took a turn for the better. Good thing too, because we had booked a trip to Phoenix and didn't want to cancel! More on that next month.
So anyway, that dumb RSV is my excuse for not taking many pictures this month. But we did take some! It's been the SNOWIEST winter I can even remember, so this snowsuit we got for SJ has really come in handy! Here's our sweet little snow angel:
We went sledding with Hayden's parents and Ryan snapped a few photos of our girl in the snow. Can you even handle?
I promise she liked the sledding more than her face indicates.
I just want to throw this one in there because it's too sweet. Why do babies look so precious when they're sleeping, but they can be such stinkers when they're awake?! Here we have her demonstrating her new favorite thing: alternating between sucking on her bottle and a binkie until she falls asleep.
We stayed in Lehi for Christmas this year. We spent a lot of time with Hayden's parents playing games, watching movies, and cross-country skiing. Hayden had to work on Christmas so that was a real bummer, but we tried to make the most of it when he joined us that evening for SJ's new cousin Sukie's blessing.
Clarissa's family rented this awesome house in the Avenues and going over there for Sukie's blessing and treats was a very Christmasy way to end the Christmas season.
Probably my favorite Christmas gift was this one given to us by Clarissa (and Andrew, I guess). They had us in the rotation of Christmas gifts this year and I requested a family portrait of the three of us. She had told me she was too busy to do a full family portrait, but still surprised me with this sweetest picture of our baby girl. I teared up when I saw this thing in person for the first time. Look how beautiful!
And here's the picture that Hayden so sneakily took to send to Clarissa for reference. That girl is SO talented!
The day after Christmas, we headed down south to get some sunshine and Layton time! While it wasn't overly sunny, we did get to spend some fun family time and especially enjoyed hiking in Zion. Look at our happy little hiker!
That night, we met up with some old friends and had a mini high school reunion. We tried to get a good picture of all our babies together and this is the best we could get. Left to right, these cuties are: Sloane Gottfredson, Lilly Ence, Sara Jane Anderson, Juniper Jackson, Nash Gottfredson, and Colt Rigby. It was so fun to see old friends and catch up!
After that fun week in St. George, we came back up to Lehi for a Robbins family reunion and New Year's party. The family reserved the church where we had a little musical program, played games, ate yummy food, and set off fireworks to ring in the new year. I have a sneaking suspicion that that's where SJ picked up her sickness because just a few days later, she came down with the worst cough and fever. :( But we got through it and everyone is happy and healthy now!
I'll just end with this picture of me and my sweet girl. The day before this, she got scratched by her bestie Hadley and also took a faceplant into the sidewalk, all within about five minutes, so her face was pretty beaten up. But I just love this picture of me and my baby girl in our matching jean jackets. SJ just keeps growing and learning and we love her forever! Until next month!
